Client Spotlight – Adanma
Adanma has been a track athlete since the 8th grade and has continued to compete and win at every level she has competed at. She is well accomplished in her specialty of the triple jump, winning a state championship in high school, being awarded numerous honors in the Big South conference, having a plethora of podium finishes throughout her career, and being crowned champion of the conference 4 times, dominate. With all of this success comes the work that she has had to put in day in and out since the 8th grade, this type of dedication has over time put an immense amount of stress on her knees, hips, and low back. She continued to train through her pain but had to modify a great deal of her training.
What worked for Adanma at Recovery Day…
We started by using our IAMT (scrapping) tools to help the inflammation she was having in her knees something very common for jumpers. This scrapping along with therapeutic exercises helped but did not solve the issue that she was having. As we addressed her knees we begin to look further up the kinetic chain, noticing that her hips were often rotated in a way that caused her low back to hurt and tighten up during and often after her training sessions. For this, we decided that consistently making sure that her hips are in line was the most important thing we could do to help her. Using muscle energy techniques and PNF stretching aided in aligning her hips, and with them in line, we now needed to relax those muscles that had been overworking to keep her moving as best they could. Cupping was able to do this decently, but it was determined that myofascial release techniques better suited her body.
She is now adding another chapter to her career down at the University of South Florida, where we know she will continue to succeed.
Good luck Adanma!!
