Client Spotlight – Rudy
Rudy has been around the game of basketball for most of his life, including playing and coaching. He continues to play in various leagues, and of course, some pick up games to stay in shape; however, he spends a lot of his time helping players from elementary school to collegiate athletes sharpen and develop their skills on the court. Throughout the time of him playing, coaching, and being an active member of a CrossFit gym, Rudy began to experience some significant lower back pain that kept him from being his usual competitive self. The injury caused him to take more precautions when lifting, going so far as not putting more than 135lbs on the bar for certain lifts and not being as aggressive when playing.
What worked for Rudy at Recovery Day…
We started by cupping his low back to loosen up his lower paraspinal muscles and bringing in some blood to allow his body to heal. This, along with a combination of e-stim and heat, allowed us to keep those muscles relaxed. Later we started to think that his lower back pain could be coming from the tightness of his hamstrings and piriformis muscles. From there, we decided that Rudy would also benefit from myofascial release to relax his piriformis. The last key to helping Rudy was using the Normatec boots to help his hamstring relax, followed by a consistent stretching program.
P.S. Rudy has been with us since we first opened in March and has continued to show love and support to us throughout his time at Recovery Day. We are proud, happy, and sad that Rudy will be moving on and advancing in his passion for basketball, and helping athletes continue to get better.
Much love brother, we’ll see you when you get back.
Recovery Day, where everyone is an athlete.
