HEAT – Wellness Wednesday
If there is one thing that all people seem to take a liking to it’s heat.
Treating pain and tightness with heat almost always makes it feel better in that moment due to the increase in circulation and blood flow to a particular area. Increasing the temperature in a designated sport increases muscle and skin flexibility while also soothing the vast majority of discomfort from painful stimuli. Arguably the only exception to this rule is when an acute injury occurs. For example, if you rolled your ankle yesterday, you may want to wait 2-3 days before putting heat on the area.
At Recovery Day, we have a hydrocollator in use at all points in time to give our clients moist heat packs before treatment. Oftentimes, this is done to ensure that the treatment options we offer are a bit more comfortable and also that our clients are relaxed before we get to work on those sore or tight spots. These heat packs are also great options to give the body a bit of an extra warm-up before a heavy workout.
