How are ATCs Different From Chiros and Massage Therapists?
Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC’s) are highly skilled and able to bring a variety of techniques and knowledge to the recovery process.
Chiropractor – a practitioner of the system of integrative medicine based on the diagnosis and manipulative treatment of misalignments of the joints
Massage Therapist – the manipulation of the muscles and other soft tissues of the body by stroking, kneading, or rubbing with one or both hands
Athletic Trainer – highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who specialize in the management, prevention, and recovery of injured athletes
Chiropractors and massage therapists are an integral part of the recovery process and are highly skilled in what they do. I would say the largest difference in these two professionals and athletic trainers though would be the scope of practice in which we are all able to work. As athletic trainers, we are truly there from before injury to help with prevention all the way throughout an injury, rehabilitation, and recovery process with an end goal of ensuring that our athletes are able to get back to doing what they love each day.
At Recovery Day, the goal is to bring this type of expertise to the general public because as Joel would say, “who is there to help them?” Athletic trainers are highly skilled and able to bring a variety of techniques and knowledge to the recovery process, something that we pride ourselves in. Within this though, we don’t enjoy dealing with injuries. Our hope is that we are able to ensure the body can run as long as possible with no injuries to ensure a healthier and happier quality of life for all of our clients. With this being said though, we understand injuries are a part of life and are more than capable of handling those as well.
