Muscle Strains

Muscle strains or “pulled muscles” are widespread injuries and can occur anywhere in the body with muscular tissue.

A strain is an overstretching or tearing of the soft tissue that connects to the bone and muscle. Improper body mechanics can cause them to lift something or even by repeating the same motion continuously, putting too much stress on the muscle.

Signs of a muscle strain may include, localized soreness, pain, weakness, cramping, swelling, stiffness, and a limited range of motion. Most mildly strained muscles heal in about a 3-6 week time frame; recovery can take less time with proper treatment. Proper treatment for strains includes a therapeutic exercise plan to strengthen the muscle around the area of the strain. Using ice, heat, and compression (for areas that can be compressed) can also benefit healing the muscle and various manual therapy techniques. The most important treatment for a muscular strain is rest; that muscle needs to have time to rebuild itself, and rest allows that to happen.

Here at Recovery Day, we use various tools and modalities to aid in the healing process of strained muscles. We are able to use E-Stim and thermotherapy to help with some of the pain felt. Using our manual techniques, cupping IAMT and myofascial release, can help bring blood flow and increase the range of motion to the area.
