Recovery Day Spotlight – Drew
Drew is in his junior year of high school and has been involved in track since the 8th grade.
His primary events include long jump and high jump; core strength and flexibility are vital in success when jumping. With Drew being only 16 years old, he has grown substantially in these past couple of years; he is now 6’3”, and with stress being placed on his core, he has begun to experience low back pain. After assessing Drew, we found that his core musculature was strong, but his low back muscles were much too tight to allow proper mechanics for jumping and landing.
What recovery therapy worked for Drew:
Using cupping and myofascial release to relax his tight lower back muscles along with a core stretching and self-mobilization protocol has seen a significant decrease in his pain and an increase in his performance. Electrical stimulation and heat were also used in combination to help modulate his pain and relax his body.
