Wellness Wednesday
Ice is a scorching topic right now in the realm of sports recovery and therapy.
There was a time where ice was the end-all-be-all when treating injuries and recovering from a hard workout. There is a definite decrease in how often ice is now used; however, ice is still great for helping your body heal and recover. It works well as a pain modulator and is able to aid the breaking of a muscle spasm. Cryotherapy is also great at calming the inflammation of specific areas, like the case of patella tendonitis and shin splints.
Here at Recovery Day, we use ice in two ways. One is in the form of an ice bag; a great way to recover on the go. Using an ice bag, our clients can put the ice only on the specific area inflamed, which helps those who may be caught in a particular part of the inflammatory process without stopping it throughout the entire body. The second way we use ice is through an ice cup massage. The idea behind this is to produce the benefits of ice while including some benefits of manual therapy.
Understanding that every body is different and reacts to treatments in various ways, it is essential to remember that something can work for you and no one else. So if ice does not give you the results you are looking for, that is okay, but if ice does help your body, continue to use it.
