Wellness Wednesday: Carpel Tunnel

Carpal tunnel is a well known syndrome that is caused by pressure on the median nerve.

It is commonly found in older adults between the age of 40 and 60 and is more commonly found in African American females. Carpal tunnel can be caused by numerous things such as: diabetes, thyroid dysfunction, high blood pressure, fracture or trauma to the wrist, menopause and or even pregnancy. Tingling, numbness and weakness of the hand are the most common signs of carpal tunnel syndrome usually only affecting the thumb, middle and index finger due to the placement of the nerve that is being affected. Most cases of carpal tunnel can be treated over a period of time with rest, ice, wrist splints, cortisone injections, and in more serious cases surgery.
