Wellness Wednesday – Myofascial Release

Every time that you press on a point of pain in your shoulder or attempt to work out that tightness in your neck, you are essentially performing a type of myofascial release.

Myofascial release, also known as trigger pointing, focuses on reducing the pain in specific areas by releasing the tension and tightness in specific “trigger point” areas. Using thumbs, fingers, elbows, or whatever else necessary, this simple technique can bring more relief than a variety of other modalities if you are able to stand the pain. This process of release is repeated multiple times over the same trigger point in the body until it is felt that the area of tension has released.

This type of tension release is extremely helpful for those who experience chronic headaches, work on a computer most of the day, or simply carry significant stress throughout their body. No matter the tension or the pain, myofascial release is likely a good candidate for this option. Joel is particularly good at finding all of the points of tension and prides himself on being able to release those tension spots before they turn into more painful issues.
